Sabor - A Celebration of Latin Music & Dance
What is Sabor?
Sabor is NOVA’s celebration of Latin music, dance, and community—a living mosaic of rhythm, movement, and cultural exchange. The series highlights the depth and diversity of Latin and Latinx artistry through live performances, open dance workshops, and collaborations that invite audiences to connect across generations and genres.
Each installment of Sabor centers a different facet of the Latin diaspora—salsa, son, bolero, reggaetón, Afro-Cuban rhythms, and beyond—while uplifting the artists who keep these traditions evolving. Whether through an intimate concert, a street-style dance jam, or a community panel, Sabor is where history and innovation meet on the same floor.
Our Story
Founded in 2023, Sabor began as an outdoor block party hosted by the Jersey City Theater Center, bringing together musicians, dancers, and neighbors in a vibrant celebration of Latin culture. What started as a single summer event quickly became one of NOVA’s signature community programs—expanding its reach and vision each year.
In 2024 and 2025, Sabor received generous support from the Jersey City Arts & Cultural Trust Fund, allowing the program to grow into a year-round initiative featuring concerts, educational workshops, and partnerships across Hudson County.
Over the years, Sabor has collaborated with an array of local organizations, including Jersey City Theater Center, New Jersey City University, Jersey City Free Public Library, I Love Greenville, Canco Park Conservancy, and St. Joseph’s School for the Blind—each contributing to the spirit of inclusion and cultural pride that defines this series.
The Pulse of Our Community
NOVA’s goal with Sabor is simple: to create spaces that honor heritage while nurturing new voices. By bridging classical, contemporary, and folkloric forms, we celebrate the pulse of our shared cultural identity—unmistakably local, proudly global, and always full of sabor.
